Restart Information & Guidelines for SDBC Saturday Rides

beginning April 17, 2021

Posted April 6, 2021

Information:

  • All seven SDBC Rides are being conducted.
  • An abbreviated Orientation is held at 8:15 for first timers.
  • UC Cyclery is currently not open before rollout. Cyclists must abide by their rules and not crowd the store entrance during open hours. Restrooms are not available at UCC before rollout.
  • Coffee, bananas, and Fluid will not be available until restrictions are lifted further.
  • Restrooms are available at Ralphs. There are porta potties at UCSD on the route.
  • Groups are assembling in or near their traditional locations.
  • Rollout of groups is staggered to reduce crowding in the parking lot and at stoplights.
  • Short announcements are made to each group prior to rollout by the Training Director instead of the usual general announcements at 8:30.
  • New rollout times: A/B/C Rides roll out beginning just after 8:20. Development Rides begin rolling out a little after 8:30.
  • Masks, bandanas, or gaiters are required of all participants in the parking lot unless they are at their cars, far from other cyclists. Wearing of masks while riding is optional under State and County guidelines. Masks should be available to wear during prolonged stops.
  • Physical/social distancing is encouraged, including when at stoplights. It is not practical to maintain six feet of separation at all times when riding, but tight bunching is discouraged.
  • Ride leaders slow down their groups as needed to avoid merging with the preceding group.
  • D-4 is limited to twelve cyclists. An additional D-4 group can be added if necessary.
  • Other rides should consider breaking into smaller subgroups as needed to avoid large bunches of cyclists. Efforts should be made to keep faster groups to fewer than 20 riders.
  • Ride Leaders will deemphasize close proximity riding—allowing groups to spread out more than would be encouraged pre-pandemic.
  • Rides may be suspended in the future if conditions worsen significantly or if prohibited by State or County health orders.

Additional Rules:

  • No spitting/snot rockets are allowed. Violators may be asked to leave the group.
  • No sharing of water bottles or food.
  • Do not attend rides if you have any signs of illness including coughs, fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, upper respiratory infections, headache, and loss of smell/taste.
  • Do not attend rides within 14 days of a positive COVID test, any COVID-related symptoms, or exposure to someone known to be infected with COVID-19.
  • SDBC does not take temperatures or require proof of vaccination.
  • Riders assume the risk of being exposed to infected cyclists when riding in a group. Please do not attend group rides if you are unwilling to accept that risk.
