Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it’s easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.
Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience. Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon. |

A Note From the Training Director |
Route Change to
Saturday Rides
This past Saturday we altered our route due to the official completion of the bike/pedestrian path and bridge which connects UCSD to Sorrento Valley.
As of 6/29/18, the "Chute" (I-5 shoulder/on/off ramp) is illegal for cyclists to use.
The new route uses Voigt Dr. to connect to the top of the new path. The Ride Leaders looked at three major options, each of which has some drawbacks. Using the route we picked maintains the mileage of our traditional route and the fairly flat first few miles for warm-up.
The new path has a blind curve in the lower section, features two-way bike and pedestrian traffic, and an abrupt stop at the bottom requiring cyclists to slow or stop before the end of the path depending on the size of the group.
It is imperative that each of the seven groups rolling out on Staturday morning take it easy riding down the path and stay attentive to potential hazards. Riders should consider the portion after the RR tracks to be the real beginning of the ride and remain calm and neutral until then.
Please contact me at training@sdbc.org if you have questions or comments. We may adjust the route if needed after we have tried it out for a few weeks.

A Note From the President |
License Plate Design
to Support Cycling Vote Now
A number of groups are working together to create the first-ever special interest license plate to support bicycling in California. The plate will be available for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and trailers.
Plate sales will generate grant funds to promote cycling, create safe places to ride, support earn-a-bike programs, and conduct safety education programs. 501(c)(3) non-profit groups like SDBC will be able to requests these grants.
Several designs have been created and organizers are asking you to vote on which you like best. A “None of the Above” option is also available.
View designs and vote by July 31st at cyclecalifornia.com

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison |
Culture Change, and How You Can Help
Imagine how much safer, easier, calmer and more appealing cycling would be in the U.S. if every law enforcement officer (LEO), motorist and cyclist took 11 minutes to view this new CyclingSavvy video addressed primarily to LEOs.
Check it out and see how you can help the American Bicycling Education Association change our culture so that "drivers of bicycles are expected and respected as a normal part of traffic on all of our roads, regardless of the absence or availability of bicycle-specific infrastructure."
