Amazon Smile

Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it’s easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.

Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.”  Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience.  Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon.

Have you Moved in the last year?

If so, please email your new address to
  membership@sdbc.org

  Thank you.

2018 SDBC Sponsors

We have several new sponsors this year - Mission Federal Credit Union is our official sponsor of the SDBC Bike Safety Rodeo & helmet giveaway program, Liquid Solana Beach, our Saturday ride coffeee stop (AKA Solana Beach Coffee Company), and ROKA a perfomance design company that designs and sells performance eyewear, apparel & equipment.

Emerald Textiles will continue as our title sponsor, UC Cyclery is continuing as our official bike club and sponsor of the men's and women's Cat 1/2 teams, and all of our sponsors that supported us last year will continue to support us this year.

Please support our sponsors. Without them SDBC would not be able to maintain the racing teams and other activities that we have all enjoyed. Visit the sponsors page on the SDBC web site to view more information about each of our sponsors or click the logos to go the specific sponsor's web site.

Interested in advertising with us? Please email our Sponsorship Director for details.

The deadline for Weekly Update submissions is Noon on Wednesday. Updates are published on Thursdays. Email submissions to weekly@sdbc.org Submissions can include anything from photos to race reports and results, etc.

A Note From The Bike Coalition Liaison

STEER FROM THE REAR!

When we have to move left like on Nobel before Regents, or on El Camino Real before La Costa, often the front is all the way across in the #1 lane (leftmost) while the rear is still in the #3 lane. The result is riders sprawled all over three lanes of the road. This can be dangerous.

One solution is to adopt what motorcycle groups do: steer from the rear. This means a rider at the very back moves over one lane first, then yells "clear!", which everyone repeats so those ahead can hear it and know to yell and move over. We've done this on D-1 and some of our other Development rides, and are doing it on the new C ride too. The more people that understand what's happening, the more smoothly it works. So please watch this video from CyclingSavvy:

https://vimeo.com/52474720

Remember:

  1. If there is a bike lane (like on El Camino Real) and we're in it, the first move is from the bike lane to the rightmost traffic lane.
  2. Wait for the rear ride leader to yell "clear!" before you move or yell "clear!"
  3. Move over and yell "clear!" when and only when you hear "clear!" behind you.
  4. Don't linger in the previous lane, move over so motorists can use that lane on our right to pass us.
  5. Only move over one lane at a time. Resist the urge to move all the way over to the leftmost lane. We want to all be transitioning between the same two lanes with none of us in a third lane.
  6. Maintain 2x2 formation throughout the process as best as you can.

NOTE: The rear ride leader may need to be assertive if there is a long stream of traffic passing us on the left. The idea is to clearly signal a lane change with a straight left arm signal from the left edge of the lane.  This will encourage motor traffic to slow or change lanes to let us in.  Never enter a lane with traffic that has not yielded to you! Once the rear ride leader moves into the lane and establishes right of way, then they yell "clear!"

Comments, questions or suggestions? Let me know.
