25th Anniversary Doppelbock

Karl Straus 25th Anniversary Doppelbock

About the Beer:
25 years in the brewing industry. It takes a pair. A pair of guys who know how to build a brewery with character. For such a momentous anniversary, we needed to go all out. Our robust Doppelbock started out as a seriously rich, malty lager with deep toffee flavors and a plum-like fruit character. Kicking it up a notch, we aged it in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year, adding layers of vanilla, toasted oak, and a warm lingering finish.

Whether you drink it now or let it age, enjoy a beer with as much soul as the brewery that created it. Cheers to our first 25 years, and the next 25 to come.

SDBC Sunday Ride

San Diego Bicycle Club

SDBC is hosting an ongoing Sunday ride leaving from UC Cyclery at 8:30 a.m. Once or twice a month we may alter the route, ride longer, or possibly leave from another location. Make sure to check SDBC Weekly online as any change will be posted.

An SDBC ride leader will lead the ride and participants are expected to:

  • Bring emergency contact information
  • Be familiar with group riding skills
  • Be able to maintain a D1 pace–17 mph average
  • Adhere to safe riding habits
  • Assist in keeping group together

Camaraderie is key! The base ride is 40 miles and arrives in Solana Beach at our sponsor, Java Depot, at 11:00 a.m. It is not a no-drop ride but we will assist in incidents as needed.

Routes will contain hills, with regrouping at the tops, faster sections with cornering and descents, and at least one water stop before coffee shop. It will be challenging, but doable & fun—like a faster version of our D2 Ride.

Arrive at 8:15 for announcements, bring 2 bottles of fluid, and be ready to roll at 8:30.

A group pic taken near ride’s end will be sent to you with a ride write-up. We look forward to seeing you.

The Pactimo store is open. To access the Team Store from the club web site, click on Members, then SDBC Clothing, and follow the directions on the page. If this is the first time you have ordered clothing from Pactimo, you will need to create your personal account.

Please be sure of your sizing. Pactimo and SDBC are NOT responsible if you order the wrong size. Use the following link to access the Pactimo Custom Clothing sizing chart.

A Note On Pricing
The clothing committee worked very hard in negotiating prices with Pactimo. Despite almost across-the-board price increases on garments, we're keeping the prices of many popular items the same as last year. In cases where we have raised prices, we have kept the increase as small as possible.

Other Items Of Interest

The following items are not sponsored or endorsed by SDBC but may be of interest to the general membership.

Tour de Palm Springs Fatal Accident

Last weekend was the Tour de Palm Springs and several SDBC members participated in the event. While overall it was a great day with three people completing their first century (Lisa Miller, Miriam Lorentzen, Daniel De Schepper) it was indeed tragic for Rancho Cucamonga cyclist La Vonne Koester who lost her life when a truck pulling a horse trailer struck her as a peloton crossed an intersection. One SDBC member, Alyssa Freas, witnessed the crash and was only saved by being alert and having the ability to make a hard 90 degree turn at speed and continue parallel to the truck to avoid getting taken out as the truck swerved coming to a stop.

As riders, we are responsible for our own action. However, in a peloton we often blindly follow the rider in front of us as we pass through an intersection. In fact, we are trained to “roll” when people say “roll.” That is what happened to La Vonne Koester. It is important to remember that safety is your responsibility, the person in front of you is not responsible for your safety. If you are approaching a controlled intersection in a peloton, and the leader has taken the group through, make sure you are looking for traffic as soon as you can so that you are able to make the final decision to proceed or not. It's far better to slow down the peloton than to risk your life, or the life of others, by blindly blasting through the intersection.
