| It's "Go Plug” Saturday! |
It’s time to find a new home for the Go Plug. Carl Ebeling won it for the month of March for surviving a hard right-hook from a moving car. Who will win it for April?
This traveling prize is awarded monthly to the person recognized as doing something special or fun or funny in cycling. Lots of folks have won it for lots of reasons over the decades, including Michael Pelkey for completing his first century ride, and Mike McLaughlin for getting his picture in the “Union-Tribune” for pushing a broom on a Fiesta Island clean-up Saturday.
"Go Plug” nominations and voting takes 2 minutes and will be done just before roll-out the first Saturday of each month.
Rules are simple:
- Any SDBC member may nominate any other SDBC member for any reason.
- Nominees must be present.
- SDBC members vote. Whoever gets the most votes wins.
- Winners MUST immediately attach the Go-Plug to their seats and it must stay on the bike during the entire month, except during races.
- The Go Plug must be returned to the Training Director by the first Saturday of each month.
So get your 15 second nomination speeches ready for Saturday...and remind your nominee she or he must be present to be nominated. |

There are new categries for this year - Modern Merckx, and Classic Merckx, and Fixie.
Modern Merckx - Standard road bike, 80mm wheel maximum, NO Time Trial specific helmets. Aero ROAD helmets are allowed, modern aero ROAD bars are allowed (no aero extensions of any kind are allowed). Skin suits are allowed. Booties/Overshoes are allowed. NO Fairings, or custom hydration. New (Latest) Equipment and unseen/uncommon new features: Legal only if bike has them as original equipment, (no customization, no prototypes).
 Classic Merckx – As it states. Bicycles, and equipment as it was in the 1960’s/1970’s. No modern AERO “anything”. Team Molteni wool jersey’s and shorts are not required, however are always acceptable and encouraged. Modern, approved Helmet is required. Are only modern concession.
Fixie – Fixed gear, two-wheel bicycle. Bicycle must have a brake and you must wear a helmet.

The Membership March Pushes Towards Goal Line
So close! Our goal is to reach 425 members by Club Night on April 3rd, and we need just 14 new or renewing members to get there.
By joining you're supporting our free coached Saturday training rides open to everyone, our annual Toy Ride for the Salvation Army, our kids’ corral and helmet give-away at the Barrio Logan Grand Prix, as well as our regional and national racing program and racing events. And when you join SDBC you’re also joining the San Diego County Bike Coalition, which is working to make the San Diego region safer for all cyclists.

| A Note From the Volunteer Director |
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!
It is time for the Barrio Logan Grand Prix once again. It will take place Saturday, May 6th and we need EVERYONE to pitch in to make this a great race day.
A couple jobs are not listed, but are very important. We need someone to pick up a small rental truck, pick up the no parking signs and bring them to the course Tuesday May 2, for placement. Please call me for details.
Also needed, someone to pick up the large rental truck, Friday, May 5, pick up the race day barricades, pick up other race supplies and drive the truck to the race Saturday morning. Again, contact me for details.
Course set up and take down:
Setting up/taking down barricades, start finish stage, registration tables etc. Bring work gloves.
Course marshal:
Helping keep the race safe, monitoring corners, reporting accidents. Bring a chair if you don't want to stand.
Hospitality:
Taking food and drinks around the course for volunteers. Bring a small wagon.
Kids race and helmets:
Signing up kids and fitting their new helmet on them.

| Masters Race Team |
| The SDBC Masters Team includes riders ages 35 and up from all categories. Masters races provide high quality racing with a consistent and tactical style that allows cyclists of different abilities to contribute to a team effort. Our goals for 2017-2018 are to build the number of active SDBC Masters racers, develop core groups of racers in each discipline, and accumulate points in the SoCal Cup series.
Riders in all categories who are interested in Masters racing can contact Team Director Andy Gurney at mastersdirector@sdbc.org for more information. Current Masters racers are also encouraged to touch base to establish an e-mail list and to set team priorities for the year.
